Amir Jangoo joins Brian Lara and Chris Gayle in joining the record books as the third West Indies batsman to hit a double century in a Test match against Sri Lanka. The milestone was achieved during the first innings of the ongoing first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.The 28-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, playing only his second Test against the West Indies, reached his maiden double hundred while batting at No. 4. He needed 342 balls to reach the milestone and completed the double hundred with a single off Sonal Dinusha on the first ball of the 142nd over.Jangu earlier scored a century on his ODI debut against West Indies and his latest goal now adds another milestone to his international career.Brian Lara is the first West Indies batsman to hit a double hundred in Test cricket against Sri Lanka. From November 29 to December 3, 2001, he played a total of 354 balls and scored 221 goals in the Tests held at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.In June 2003, Lara added another double century by scoring 209 runs in the first innings of 360 balls against Sri Lanka in Grosse Ile, St. Lucia.Chris Gayle scored 333 runs off 437 balls in Galle in November 2010, one of the highest scores in Test cricket against Sri Lanka.Gayle’s 333 remains the highest individual score in a Test against Sri Lanka. Apart from Gayle, only Pakistan’s Younis Khan has scored a triple hundred against Sri Lanka in Test cricket. The former Pakistan captain scored 313 off 568 balls in the Tests held at the National Stadium in Karachi from February 21 to 25, 2009.Jangoo’s innings also helped West Indies establish a strong position in the match. He and captain Roston Chase shared the highest sixth-wicket partnership in Test cricket before the hosts declared their first innings at 626 for 9 and led Sri Lanka by 318 runs on day three.Sri Lanka have to play four overs before the third day of action. They lost their second-round match to openers Pathum Nissanka and ended the day with a 15-1 deficit, still trailing by 303 points. Kasun Rajitha remains unbeaten in 4 matches while Nishan Madushka remains unbeaten in 2 matches.
