Over 4 lakh CBSE Class 12 students will be required to scan answer papers by 2026, govt tells Rajya Sabha

The Center has informed the Union House that nearly 4.04 lakh CBSE Class 12 students have applied for scanned copies of the assessment answer sheets after the 2026 board results. More than 168,000 candidates have also chosen verification or reassessment. To improve accessibility, CBSE has reduced post-result service charges and provided refunds in case of higher re-evaluation scores.

A significant number of CBSE Class 12 students have chosen to review their assessment answer papers after the 2026 board results, reflecting the growing demand for transparency in the examination process. The Center informed the Federal House that nearly a quarter of students who appeared for the Class 12 exams had requested scanned copies of their assessment answers, while hundreds of thousands more sought verification or re-evaluation of their scores.Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary shared the details in a written reply to a question raised by Member of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav Mandadi.

Nearly 400,000 students requested scanned answer sheets

According to data tabled in Parliament, around 17.69 lakh students will appear for the CBSE Class 12 examination in 2026.Among them, nearly 404,000 students (about 22.8% of all candidates) applied to obtain scanned copies of assessment answers after the results were announced.In addition, more than 168,000 students (approximately 9.5% of the total number of candidates) applied to verify issues found in their answer sheets and/or sought re-evaluation of their answers.Data shows that a significant number of students are choosing to use the post-result facilities introduced by the boards to better understand their assessments and seek corrections if needed.

CBSE reduces post-result fees to encourage admissions

Explaining the steps taken this year, Chaudhary said CBSE has significantly reduced the fees for post-result services so that students are not deprived of the opportunity to review their answers due to financial reasons.He informed the House that the board issued a notification on May 17, 2026, introducing the revised fee structure for these services.Under the new rates, students will pay the following fees:

The minister said the reduced fee structure was introduced to make the result processing process more student-friendly and convenient.

If the score increases, the reassessment fee will be refunded

The government also highlighted another student-friendly measure introduced this year. Chowdhury said candidates whose scores improved after the re-evaluation process will get a full refund of the re-evaluation fee.The purpose of this is to ensure that students do not suffer a financial burden if assessment errors are discovered and corrected.

Focus on transparency of the evaluation process

The large number of applications scanning answer sheets shows that students are increasingly taking advantage of the transparency measures available after the board results are announced.Providing access to assessment answers allows students to review the grading process before deciding whether to seek validation or reassessment. As part of CBSE’s efforts to make these facilities more accessible and equitable, a revised fee structure and refund policy were introduced.

CBSE class 12 exam this year

CBSE Class 12 board examination for the academic year 2026 will be conducted from February 17 to April 9. The board announces results on May 13, after which students can apply for various post-result services, including obtaining scanned answers, score verification and re-evaluation. Figures submitted to the council highlighted the widespread use of the facilities by students following the results.
