Kuldeep YadavThe left-arm wrist spinner was ignored throughout the ODI series against England, leading to the absence of the former India spinner, and his continued absence from Team India’s starting XI has sparked fresh criticism. Ravichandran Ashwin Questioning the team management’s confidence in him. The spinner once again missed the third ODI at Lord’s on Sunday, despite Jasprit Bumrah Not available. His omission further fueled debate over his role under head coach Gautam Gambhir. India has played 104 international matches across all formats since Gambhir took charge on July 9, 2024, but Kuldeep has featured in only 38 of them. Ashwin was convinced that spinners were no longer part of the team’s plans due to lack of opportunities. Ashwin said on his YouTube channel that Kuldeep should stop waiting for opportunities that don’t seem to be coming. “Kuldeep should not have played at all, there is no need at all. This is a batsman’s world and can never understand the confidence and rhythm of a bowler. I am a big indian cricket buff – I always think about Indian cricket. Even as the IPL is going on, I keep thinking, ‘What can it bring to Indian cricket?’ Kuldeep is at a stage where he can play till 35 or 36 years of age. He has a good contract; he was recently part of an IPL deal – he should pack his bags and come. like Mohammad Kaif You say, what’s the point? “ Ashwin also backed Kuldeep’s qualities, calling him the best wrist spinner in world cricket and believing his record is comparable to some of the leading white-ball spinners across the globe. “Kuldeep has taken around 170 wickets in 120 games. If you look at wrist spinners around the world, he is even better than Adam Zampa. We think Adam Zampa is one of the best white-ball spinners. He is ahead of them all,” he said. The former India spinner admitted that he had previously thought Kuldeep should stay in the team and continue to improve his batting while waiting for his chance. However, India’s selection at Lord’s changed his perspective completely. “Before yesterday, I used to say – Kuldeep should stay there with the kit and work on improving his batting. But after yesterday (the third ODI), a lot of things have changed… In this team, you don’t need to bat at No. 8 – you can go with the bowling power – Even then, you still didn’t pick Kuldeep Yadav in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, which means the management has absolutely zero confidence in Kuldeep Yadav,” he said. Ashwin questioned what Kuldeep’s future will be if he fails to get a spot even though conditions appear to be conducive for his selection. “Where are his chances after we left? He has to be No. 1 now. But the confidence he showed – there is none. What is the point of Kuldeep continuing? What is the direction he is heading in?” asked Ashwin. He also suggested that every dressing room naturally develops first-choice players but feels Kuldeep’s situation has become extremely difficult. “I know everyone has their favorites. It’s impossible for anyone to say, ‘I’m going to treat everyone equally.'” Without even realizing it, you’ll have your favorites. That would happen, but this is a very strange case. Yesterday was a big blow for Kuldeep. “ Kuldeep last played for India in the home ODI series against Afghanistan in June, where he played in just one of the three games. He had a disappointing performance in the ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year and also made just one appearance during the T20 World Cup in India.
