Prince Harry Wants Taxpayer-Funded Security for Longtime UK Family and King Charles |
Prince Harry is known for his role as the senior member of the British royal family and his philanthropic work with the Invictus Games Foundation. The Duke of Sussex moved to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children in 2020, marking a major departure from royal duties and UK life. Now, following a recent visit to the United Kingdom where he reunited with his family and King Charles, the Duke is said to be determined to continue campaigning for taxpayer-funded security during his time in the country.According to The Mirror, Prince Harry “wants to visit more UK families” and wants to campaign for taxpayer-funded security to make this possible. The Duke of Sussex has previously lost an appeal against his High Court decision against the Home Office following a decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures to grant him limited protection while in the country. However, following his recent visit to the UK for a series of Attictus Games events, Harry is said to be determined to re-do his plans.

Prince Harry promotes security so he can spend family time with King CharlesThe Duke is expected to persuade the Home Secretary, with sources suggesting he wants to arrange more meetings with the King to allow him to spend more time with his grandchildren, who have not been to the UK since the Sussexes moved to the United States in 2020. The couple met again earlier this month when Harry, Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Princess, and Princess Libet House, met Princess Libet at Highland House in west London.However, the meeting was overshadowed by reports that the monarch’s offer to stay at Buckingham Palace was “finally withdrawn”. Buckingham Palace indicated that proper hospitality and staff requirements were no longer in place. But the decision would mean that Meghan and the couple’s children would have to pull the plug on their plans to join them, and could come later after flying in from Europe.

Prince Harry says children cannot be safe without protectionThe Duke has previously said that his children “cannot stay at home” in the UK if it is “not possible to keep them” there, and that he has been “chosen” to “not receive treatment” and his safety, security and life are “at risk”. His legal arguments revolved around the welfare of his family and his desire to provide them with a safe place to travel to the UK.But the Home Office, which is responsible for the committee’s decisions, rejected Harry’s appeal. His lawyers told the court that the decision was taken in “exceptional circumstances” and that there was “no valid reason” to challenge it. She now provides her own security when traveling to the UK, which poses a significant financial and logistical challenge to her travel.Prince Harry is due to return to the UK next year for the Attictus Games in Birmingham and says he hopes his family will be able to accompany him to the event.
